Permissions, when do you & when don't you?
OK you've done some research on building & land & social history in your area and found a place that on paper looks promising. A bit more diggging and asking about reveals the property owners to be a committee or association (let's assume a communilty hall as an example) do you as a regular practice go about getting formal permission to metal detect? Most cases even though technically it's privately owned property of sorts I doubt they'd even notice you were there especially if you dug with care.

Getting permission for provincial parks is fairly straight forward if sometimes a bit of a crap shoot depending on the person in charge as such things are frequently left to his discretion.

City/township public lands we don't noramlly get express permission from the looks of things correct? but we treat everything we do with respect and leave it better than we found and have no problems generally.

So where do you draw the line as to when you get permission or not?

Buddy private property is just that and I have found anything that is run by a committee is more viscous when it comes to there property and who's is doing what on it , than just a land owner. Any committee would be tough to tackle for permission. If you know someone on the committee then approach them first and see what the reaction is.

RE: Permissions, when do you & when don't you?
After you have gotten permission a few times and been around for awhile , you pretty well get the hang of what you can do and what you can't do. When to ask and when you don't have to ask. Each person has there own feel about this and it won't be long till you aquire the same feel. My partner and I each have a different aproch. Sometimes we feel his would be better and sometimes I will attack or we wiil both agree to just hunt. You'll get the hang of it. HH.
