Now he is saying this is the longest winter he can remember. Ha. He is just chomping at the bit. So his dad came and seen me and asked a lot of questions and now he is going to get one also. It was about 8 yrs ago that he was saying he wanted one also.
I think these guys will be good hunters or at least they will have lots of patience. They may not cover a lot of ground but I'll bet the ground they cover has had a through going over. It will be a wait and see thing. I'm still chucking to myself.

From the land of the Bluenose.....while the man of leisure toiled away at the local flea markets this working class stiff was laying the ground work for a day of digging by making the boss breakfast in bed.

About 11am Navy Davy showed up and away we went as Marie and her sisters headed for the Rubber Duckie car wash. Lord only knows how bad Otto needed a bath.

Ironically we chose a digging spot that had been my first exposure to the hobby and it wasn't long before Navy Davy was folding himself to dig targets.

And even sooner it seemed that the "Navy Davy Fan Club" swarmed him and admiring the 1852 Quebec Bank token that he had unearthed. Mister man that is one big heavy coin!

We made a fine pair on this day with ND's bad back and my bruised ribs. The moaning and groaning I'm sure could rival the fog horn from the lighthouse at Ketch Harbour!

Navy Davy was having a field day finding a nice silver ring followed by a small gold one. His Ace 250 was a humming with a dog tag, a few buttons, an eyeball eye find and a nifty little bell to go along with his 30 coins.

As for this old bouy it was a silver ring, key, two dog tags and 84 coins @ $6.16

The mandatory Tim's once again was fruitless as we continued our "O4" in that department.

The day before I had been scouting the old stagecoach stop area and was dismayed that yet another spot had bite the dust due to construction. Couldn't even find the cellars!

On the brighter side I did manage to catch a glimpse of the rare , native to Nova Scotia only "Bouy Tree" in full bloom!

From the land of the Bluenose.....the alarm went off. Not the mechanical one but that biological one embedded in us shift workers. Not so bad when the power goes off but on your days off! Lord love a duck. This bouy was having a good snooze while playing spoons with the boss who was due up for work in an hour. Just laid there till she woke up, got showered and headed out to work. Looking out the bedroom window I could see that we had a typical cloudy day so what to do?

"Yo Homie"
"Hi dude"
"Let's go do the dew"
"See you in 45"

With that deep conversation out of the way I rushed around the place like a tuna caught in a net full of mackerel doing dishes here, making a bed there and vaccuuming.............man dislike the noise of that machine big time. Give me the bell tone from my Garrett any day!

To Tim's we did traverse with roll up the rims proving that we were "Natural born losers." Some comfort was afforded us by the view at "our park."

(tad heavy on the saturation of that shot.)

Navy Davy opened his back cab on the Thunderbolt Grease slapper as I flipped open Otto's trunk to grab my gear. Well blow me a shore in a gale me son as ND presented me with a framed MacGaskill of the Bluenose and a repaired set of chest waders. Bouy knows how to strike at a fellow's soul. Too boot I can't tell you how many repairs the bouy has done to my gear.....a sailor who can do any job on a scowl!

So we walked. So we swank. So we dug up a few trinkets with ND hitting a silver locket, a rhinestone heart and some dewies that look a lot like gold! Had himself a good day also finding 22 coins and his first ever religious medal. Imagine the "Big Guy" was smiling down upon on him at that moment!

After we had finished looting the area I counted my coins.....49 so ND pipes up..."Grab your machine and go get number 50!" Less than 2 minutes later quota was in the pocket at $3.91 along with the dinky that looked like it had driven through the rough part of town.

That evening while checking the fence line I had a deep thought.

Selling my Golden Mask I relic machine. Bought this from the manufacturer last year to test out. Works great, super depth but not really something the average hunter would want. But if your a hard core ghost town or field hunter then this machine is made for you.
Full disc won't knock out a pulltab or large iron. It does give you more control in iron though. I hunt with it in the lowest discrimination setting and it eliminates square nails and very small rusty iron without turning it up.
The one thing I did not like about the machine is the battery setup. Runs on 10 AA batteries. Comes with rechargeable batteries and a charging unit so it can be charged on board. The batteries can be replace with regular batteries though. I used the rechargeables myself and could not kill it.
Coil is 10" and built like a tank. Sorry no manual but here it is
1 Turn on machine
2 Set sensitivity to 6
3 Set disc at lowest setting
4 Hunt
Heres a field test from my friend Gary in the UK
Man was it dead with no beeps or even whispers of a target so we moved to the area behind the beach which was much to our amazement very soft and digable......and we did hitting pennies every few steps. At the far end I pulled out my first silver coin of the year, a 1945 dime which I managed to scratch with the lesche tool. Was a tad worn so I didn't feel too bad. Out of practise big time and even more so out of shape for my legs were aching bigtime!

From the land of the Bluenose.....Hurricans Mary Rose and Elise had hit my household as French Dave and his entourage paid an expected visit. Sure was nice to have two cute little gippers around.................the energy level was off the charts. Off course the main topic of conversation was metal detecting with French Dave putting on a happy face as I gave him 3 French silver coins from the mid 1800's. After a nice visit they left as did I hoping to catch a bit of the shoreline at low tide and leaving Marie to clean up the aftermath of the "hurricanes."

My face dropped as I hit the park for the tide was full. Putting on my thinking hat (a tad over sized for this bouy) I began to rack my brain for a spot when I heard a yell of a rug rat in the tot lot. Bingo! So after a few moments when the children left and the only sound was the waves and seagulls I hit the pebbled play area which was not frozen and began to harvest a few pennies while doing the drunken sailor grid.

Cleaned out that area and headed to Tim's for a double milk then attacked another pebbled playground with limited success. Pointed Otto who is barely recognizable under all the salt homeward bopping to Pavarotti.

Take for the day was 18 coins at 31 cents...hardly the Mother Lode!

Little did I know that I was about to get a phone call that would without be the most "bizarre" detecting thingie this bouy had ever done!

I picked up the phone on the second ring only to hear French Dave ask me if I had a detector working to which I replied that I have 3 Freedom 3 Pluses up and running. He said he would be right over and arrived in 5.

"Guddum" he stated
"What's the problem Dave" I retorted?
"I dink Elise swallowed a quarter or some foil."
"I'll get the detector"
French Dave laid his 2 year old on the floor and I fired up the Garrett which gave 3 blips which indicated that the batteries were good and began to scan over the prone Elise who was looking at me with her big brown eyes in awe. As I passed the coil over her belly the machine emitted that sweet bell tone.............my heart sank...........Elise started crying.........French Dave gave that...........French Dave look. Made another sweep to make sure receiving the same bell tone.

At this time I asked French Dave if he had checked his daughter's pockets.................yielded a dime so I swung the coil over her again this time with no sound from my machine. Lord love a duck thank goodness and FD and crew once again took to the road back to Chetticamp!

Later that evening Marie who spoils me rotten gave me a real treat that she had been hiding away for a special occasion!

From the land of the Bluenose.....Saturday surfing and no water to be seen! This detecting forum, that detecting site with bouys still getting our a digging. Even Yulah's metal detecting vid on youtube.com could not shake the feeling of despair and jealousy of those in warmer climates. I had enough I tell you...enough and with the sun a beaming I grabbed one of my Freedom 3 Plus machines and sprinted out the door to a salt ridden Otto.

Knew that my only option was to dig a shore line below the high water line so to the Dingle this bouy did a go only to be greeted by a multitude of screaming rug rats, a horde of albino crows and ducks flying overhead along with mobile manure makers of every color, size and breed galloping all over the park.

Undaunted I dodged freezbies, aerial duck droppings and land mines of fresh and not so fresh doggie dew to get to the shore. Made it unscathed swinging the Garrett before me hoping that no bell tone was heard before I reached shore. two swings later on the shore my first heavenly bell tone purring from the Garrett which resulted in a dog tag nevertheless. I immediately dug deeper hoping to find remains to no avail! Rats!

This area was one that Navy Davy, Slickpick Rick and I had done on several previous occasions with some degree of success so I was not looking forward to any great finds nor any great amount of toasty coinage but was pleased with the 13 coins (37cents) rescued from the ooze.

Tide was coming up and my detecting area was shrinking in direct proportion but I didn't care. Got to swing in February and left as happy as an albacore tuna in a school of mackerel!

So where does the "50" come into play well let me tell you me son. At the biker's dance Marie and I attended I had brought 50/50 tickets but had left before the dance was over and had turned the tickets over to Ken, Marie's brother who at 2am in the morning was ringing our buzzer. Shocking as we were in bed but Ken being Ken had to come up which he did handing Marie an envelope..........containing $294....we had won! Gave Ken $40 to take his date out for a snack and threw him out the door.

Second and third 50's I received on Valentine's day as when I awoke there was an envelope and a little red bag decorated with hearts. Read the card....rather mushy, Lord love a duck and inside was this pair of 50's.....cent pieces that is!

A few more dollars for the "Back to the UK Fund" and few I might add as Marie got half, Otto got a piece of mine and to get out of the doghouse for having forgotten the International Day of Love I emptied my pocket for a bottle of "Shi" perfume.......stinks sum pretty youz!

From the land of the Bluenose.....well finally got the UK trip booked although the price was up $150 for the return flight. August 26 to Sept 9 for the Canuck invasion. Too excited!

Recently added another weapon to my "tools of mass detection."
No excuse now for Navy Davy and Marie to join me a swishing as I have the gear for two.

Went for a quick drive and took a few photos of Halifax from Dartmouth.
Marie and I did the do and took the "cruise" which lasts for about 20 minutes!
Waiting for the prices to go down to book the Dominican. Must say trips to mexico are certainly rock bottom in prices with the travel agents using the slogan... "Mexico slice, dice and shoot....we have it all!

The "Olga" (my mother) just turned a spry 77 and is a social butterfly at the 50 Plus Club

Going to the Road Dwags Motor Cycle Club Winter Bash tonight to cut a rug and shake a leg as Marie wants to try her's out which is great as her's is recovering from the surgery.........best news of all!

So I looked into it and found some people who did this sort of carving. It is called spirit face carving or bark carving. I have been at it for about six weeks and really enjoy it. Here is a pic of a few carvings , I have a long way to go but I am in no hurry as I have plenty of time.
