Hi Everyone

I'm new to MD'ing but spent some time as a hobby with fossils, minerals & relics so thought I'd finally add a metal detector to the gear I already lug around the province.

I'm based in Calgary. Luckily my wife likes tagging along on day trips or short overnighters so I get to get out pretty frequently during the nice summer days.

My detector is a Garrett ACE 250 with both 6x9 & 9x12 coils. Decided on this feller after reading everything I could find on newbie detectors & seemed like a good balance of price & "bang for the buck".

Look forward to getting to know everyone.
I've been detecting on and off for many years, Mostly in the Athabasca area during the 80's and 90's, but pretty much dropped it and sold everything when I moved to GP around 1998. I picked up a White's IDX in 2004 and tried to restart, but I was addicted to MMORPG's at the time and never really gave it a good shot.

Killed the gaming habit last year, started hunting regularly, and purchased a new MXT in the fall. Been doing some research during the winter, picked up and have on order a few more accessories, and ready to hit the dirt when the snow melts.

Looking forward to reading everyone's stories, finds, and information.

I did some detecting in the 70s strange how the machines back then didn't really do what what they said mostly just played around and lost interest just couldn't seem to find all that gold. With retirement in mind I always kept it on the to do list later in life when I had more time and focus. I decided to get a jump on it and started detecting again in the last 5 years figured to hone some skill early and make detecting a major part of my life more enjoyable. I hunt mostly clad & jewelry at the moment but have done some detecting in the east and would like to spend more time there hunting as I do have a number of family farms to hunt and have tried a couple with mixed success just need more time on my hands. Starting some time in 2010 I will become a full time RV guy detecting across the country. I also do water hunting and run 5 water machines wet suit & dry suit, Powerdive hookah. Land hunting I have pretty much something of everything out there and am into vintage machines.
I live in Carstairs Alberta and have been detecting for 10 years now (how time flys)
For detectors I mainly use Treasure Barons or a Fisher CZ5, I also have 3 older Tesoros, a Bandido, a Silver Sabre Plus and an Amigo II. I have a Teknetics 8500B and a Mark I but they dont get used very much.
I have tried several different detectors over the years and will probably try a few more.
I like to detect for old stuff, whether it is coins or relics, basically whatever pops up at an older site.
I wouldnt mind trying to do some water hunting but I dont have a water detector or any sites that are close by.
Heres a pic from a couple of years ago when I was relic hunting with a Nautilus
